DUNSTABLE charity champion Simon Stothard was “honoured, surprised and humbled” to be chosen as an Olympic torchbearer.
The Luton Children and Families Information Service officer said: “Just being nominated was enough for me. But to go this far is fantastic.”
He added: “The timing of 8 July is perfect, topping off a year when I will have completed two duathlons, three half marathons andmy biggest challenge yet – cycling more than 1,000 miles in nine days from John O’Groats to Land’s End.”
Simon, 29, of Langdale Road has invited Herald&Post readers to ‘like’ his Facebook page – 2012 for Cystic Fibrosis’ – and to follow him on twitter@simonstothard.
He’s looking forward to a well-earned rest after his Olympic effort: “And a few drinks!”
The names of the inspirational people chosen to carry the flame and the route they will take was announced on Monday.
A total of 8,000 will bear the beacon on its 70-day journey which begins in Land’s End on May 19.
