Traffic chaos after lorry overturned

TRAFFIC came to a standstill on the A5 just outside Dunstable on Tuesday night, April 26, after an articulated lorry overturned.

The lorry had been negotiating the roundabout at the junction with the A505, Leighton Buzzard bypass.

The accident happened during rush hour at around 5.20pm, and cars heading southbound queued from the scene right back to Hockliffe.

Police officers were at the scene directing traffic back onto the bypass and through to Houghton Regis via Thorn turn.

The road was completely blocked until the Eddie Stobart lorry was recovered in the early hours of Wednesday morning, at around 1.30am.

It then took a further 90 minutes for workers to repair the barriers and street furniture damaged during the accident.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash.

The lorry driver escaped with minor whiplash injuries. He was taken to Luton & Dunstable Hospital.

Two fire crews attended the incident to make the vehicle safe.
