A CAT rescue co-ordinator says she is “disgusted” after a thief smashed the window of the charity’s van.
The Cats Protection van was parked in Sycamore Road in Houghton Regis on Friday while volunteer Danielle Pettitt was rescuing stray cat from the garden of a house.
But when she returned to the Vauxhall Vivaro she found the window had been smashed with a brick and her mobile phone stolen.
Co-ordinator of the Cats Protection Dunstable branch, Helen Balcombe, said: “The van has got a great big logo on the front – no-one could fail to see it was a charity van.
“Stealing from a charity is just despicable.”
The break-in was reported to the police, and the vehicle was dusted for fingerprints but none were found.
As well as breaking the window the brick also damaged the van’s steering column.
“We only got the van 15 months ago and now we are absolutely stuffed as we have no transport,” said Helen.
“Our own cars aren’t set up to hold the carriers and transport cats comfortably.
“It’s been very upsetting for all of us.”
