A HAIR salon in Dunstable beat nominees across the country to win a national hair award at a star-studded event in London last week.

Elaine Sullivan-Child Hair and Beauty in High Street South was crowned Afro Salon of the Year at the Hair Awards 2012 at a glamourous ceremony at the Altitude Tower, Westminster, on Monday February 27.

Celebrity hairdresser Andrew Barton from BBC’s 10 Years Younger was present at the event, as well as TV personalities Caroline Flack, 32, and Lauren Pope, 28 – the latter took to the DJ booth after the awards to spin some tunes and get everyone on the dancefloor.

Elaine Sullivan-Child, 34, has run the salon for just over a year with her mum Angie Atkins.

They cater for European and Asian hair as well as Afro Carribean hair, and Elaine is ecstatic to have won the award and hope the honour will raise the profile of the town centre.

Elaine said: “We are very excited and it is absolutely amazing to have won.

“The recognition for our team for all of their hard work and energy is wonderful.

“We hope that winning will be a platform to expand our brand and continue to grow successfully as a salon”.
