FOUR determined Dunstablians plan to reach the summit of 15 mountains in 24 hours in June to raise money for several charities.

Louise Humphrey, 30, Simon Humphrey, 33, Andy Chappell, 39, and Phil Curran, 41, aim to complete the Welsh 3000s Challenge.

All peaks in Wales over 3,000ft must be conquered in one day without using any form of transport.

The complete mountaineering novices hope that the 30-mile journey will help them raise £1,500 for Keech Cottage Care, the Lymphoma Association, Sparks children’s charity and Sands neonatal death charity.

Louise said: “We have started some serious training in and around Bedfordshire and look forward to brighter evenings so we can increase our walking time and distance.

“Andy has never walked further than to his car, while I am the only female.

“Being the smallest certainly helps with getting up and down hills.”

Simon recently lost five stone with the Lighter Life weightloss plan and Phil is a regular gym-goer, so their fitness will be key to their success.

The route, which starts at the summit of Snowdon – the highest peak in Wales – is dangerous and some of the mountains are very exposed.Several people have died walking on Crib Goch.
